Bill
Clinton was born on 19 August 1946 in the town of Hope, Arkansas,
making him the first president to be born after the Second World
War. After attending Georgetown University, Clinton won a Rhodes
scholarship to Oxford (1968-70) from where he progressed to Yale
Law School. He was appointed Professor of Law at the University
of Arkansas in 1974 at the age of 28, but after serving only two
years he made the crucial move into full-time politics, with his
election as Attorney General of Arkansas, progressing to the governorship
in 1978. With the exception of a two year gap (1980-82) Bill Clinton
was governor of Arkansas from 1978 up to his election as president
of the United States.
One
interesting, indeed fascinating, aspect to be considered about Clinton's
presidency and administration is the role played by the First Lady,
Hillary Clinton. Not since Edith Wilson, following the stroke suffered
by Woodrow Wilson in 1919, has it been alledged that the wife of
a president has wielded so much power in the White House. It remains
to be seen what America's vedict is on Bill Clinton as its president.
