This section of the web site answers some useful questions on the background to the Ulster Society. Why was the Ulster Society formed? It has been demonstrated that the passive approach to culture and history has not been beneficial to our country's interest. As a result, many feel that a concentrated effort to deny the validity of Ulster-British heritage, is on-going. Therefore, it is the Ulster Society's aim to set the record straight by promoting the long and proud tradition of the Ulster-British people.
What does the Ulster Society do? The Society is a major publisher of books and booklets on a wide variety of Ulster-related themes, ranging from serious military and political biography to folk music and fiction. The Ulster Society produces touring historical and cultural exhibitions which have proved to be very popular with schools and with the public at large. Topics covered have ranged from a study of American presidents of Ulster descent to a survey of how Ulster celebrated the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The Society has written many articles for local and national newspapers prompted by anniversaries: - the tercentenary of the death of William of Orange - the centenary of the Wyndham Land Act of 1903 - the 90th anniversary of Winston Churchill visit to Belfast - the outbreak of the Great War or topics in the news (eg Roger Casement or the Eagle Wing) or to promote subjects such as the Commonwealth.
